As a kid, the only time I enjoyed writing a thank-you note was to my Godfather for the beautiful monogrammed stationery set he gave me. Writing it ON said stationery definitely let him know it was appreciated.
Taking the time to make a phone call and have a conversation seems appropriate. I always hated writing thank you cards; only because I said the same thing every year. “Thank you for the generous gift….”
Writing thank you notes is a mark of good manners and proper up bringing. Something that is lacking from those who always are also complaining about being politically correct too.
I wrote these. My kids would, too, but the rule in their family (inlaws) is that it’s only necessary if you can’t thank the giver in person. I hope someone mails a present this year >:-)
I think thank you’s in person,or on the phone are as good,if not better than a thank you note. These days most of us try to get away with a text,or e-mail at best, just to avoid person to person contact, but a phone call means you’ll have to tell auntie truthfully (she’ll detect a lie) how much you love those bunny slippers,or the hand knitted reindeer sweater!

Gee… when was the last time John wrote a thank-you letter before he even met Elly?

Dad sounds like I would expect Michael to say.

Looks like another “I wanna smack John” day. If Elly heard him say this she ought to make him write the thank you letters from now on!

This is another ‘do as I say, not as I do’ type of thing that parents often offer their kids…

And husbands wonder why wives tend to think of them as just an additional child in the family…
