Reminds me of the squirrels here that I only feed when the snow is covering their usual source of food:
The tamer ones in our busy park (a lot of tourists find them very entertaining if they can feed from their hand [I don’t let them get that close!]) are rather fussy about what they will accept …. unsalted peanuts in the shell (so that the birds can’t open them) or sometimes oyster crackers but no bread or rolls.
The wilder ones down by the river are grateful for any source of calories.
He’ll only accept stone-ground wholemeal bread, and she’s offering him Wonder. My mother always said they called it Wonder bread because you wonder what it’s really made of.
Back in the ’60s and ’70s, the Peanuts television specials were sponsored by various brands of bread. Where I lived we always saw commercials for Butternut Bread featuring the Peanuts cast, but apparently the brand varied by region.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1q-Z6JlVUiI
They do get fussy if you feed them regularly. Next thing you know, he’ll be complaining about the spoons you brought and tell you to go out and get a Velasquez for the loo…
