‘Looking at him, Jesus felt a love for him and said to him, “One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” But at these words he was saddened, and he went away grieving, for he was one who owned much property.’ – Mark 10:21-22
The Bible clearly teaches that there is no condemnation for those that are in Christ. We don’t have to “worry about our souls” if we are trusting in Jesus! Go ahead and open your soup kitchen – or whatever else He may lead you to do. But do it out of joy and thanksgiving, not out of fear.
Ephesians 2:8-10 New International Version (NIV)
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

A pope worrying about his own salvation? Sounds just about right, sadly… :P :P :P

Well, we can all worry about the state of our souls, I think.
