Don’t you go trusting one of them science thingys.
What’s additionally funny is that lie detectors… don’t. Not reliably. If they did, Chad Dixon wouldn’t be in jail. (sample headline; “‘Beat the lie detectors’ trainer sentenced to 8 months in jail”). Unfortunately, the anti-logic types will probably mention this as confirmation that their lies aren’t lies.
Alternative facts.Lies. Damned lies. Worse than statistics. At least statistics are in the same mental universe. These psychos are living in opposite-world.Faykts.
The reason “lie” detector results are not accepted in a court of law is because if the testee is a sociopath (like, say Donald John Trump)who has no concept of the difference between a ‘truth’ and a ‘lie’ them the polygraph will indicate the testee is truthful while uttering the most base canard! In other words, to a pathological sociopathic liar, if you believe a ‘lie’, then its not a ‘lie’! Read Orwell’s “1984” for an in-depth study of this – or in a ever so slightly ‘lighter’ vein, Orwell’s “Animal Farm!” Both should be required reading in high school.
Lie detectors are not reliable; trained polygraph operators claim they can get good results through their skill in asking questions (e.g., pairing questions in a way that gets more dramatic contrast), but the truth is that it’s not that simple.
There is research into the pathways of the brain that are indicative of truth versus lies, and this is more promising. In brief, to lie requires different neural pathways than to simply recall the truth. This appears to be unbeatable, though work still has to be done.
So I look forward to the day when we can apply fMRI to our politicians…especially the proven, serial liar in the White House.
Conduct that is firm while perverse, words that are eloquent while crafty, the transmission of what is wrong with erudition, the following of what is evil while giving it a gloss – these are prohibited by the sage king. (Kuan tzu , 5.7b)

Confucius said: He stands to benefit who makes friends with three kinds of people. Equally, he stands to lose who makes friend with three other kinds of people. To make friends with the straight, trustworthy in word and the well-informed is to benefit. To make friends with the ingratiating in action, the pleasant in appearance and the plausible in speech is to lose.
To the mentally ill, lies are a coping mechanism. Trump is seriously mentally ill. His lies are compulsive. He’s clinically nuts. Those around him are more or less sane, as far as I can tell, but who knows? Having a mentally ill boss is a great problem. You can quit, or adopt the insanity to mollify your nutty leader. There’s really no middle ground with mental illness, particularly if it is a malignant condition (harmful to the mentally ill and to others around them.) Unless they quit, it’s not too hard to guess which way the trumpies are going.
One’s persons truth may be another person’s lie depending upon who the source of the information. The press doesn’t really report the news anymore but is opinion disguised as fact; or, depending on your source and opinion, the news is anything reported. Fangs but no fangs, i’m outta here.
