Inheritance. I can easily see how it might come up with Lynn Johnston’s children. When mom is a multi-millionaire cartoonist and dad is a plain, old millionaire dentist and you live in a giant lakefront house with an indoor swimming pool like they did, it may make you think you have an inheritance. If my kids asked for an advance on their inheritance, I would probably get a good laugh out of that.

Elly’s eyes are going to fall out. She seems to be suffering from Panel 4 Syndrome.

Michael is a prodigal son in the making. That was the basis for Jesus’ story; the prodigal son asked for an advance on his inheritance (where he left for a faraway land and spent the money on a life of debauchery). Asking for one’s inheritance when the parents were still alive was a big no-no under Jewish law.

Just clean your room, Michael, you’ll live longer.

I’ve always liked the bumper sticker on the new vehicle that read " We’re spending our kids’ inheritance ! "

Lynn’s notes:Another original line from my eldest offspring. An interesting suggestion, but no cigar.

Inheritance is after the parents are dead and he turns 18. Not before.

I saw the best bumper sticker on the back of an RV. “We’re spending our kids inheritance!”
