I liked doing that when I could find a shrubbery. Didn’t ever sit on a slug either which I am glad. Though they are fantastic creatures. Their slime layer makes it near impossible to pick them up.

The worst thing is to step on a slug in your bare feet. They do not scrape off. Yetch.

My sister has a childhood memory of a house we’d stayed at (in the Otterloop’s vicinity too) – a guest was unknowingly standing on a slug, rocking back and forth on her heels, the slug…ballooning with each rock. Eww, indeed.

I love how slug trails glisten in the morning sun.

When I was little, our neighbor had a willow tree that was planted near a corner of a stone wall. The branches hung over the wall and created the perfect place to hide.

There Once Upon a Time were many empty lots and even some undeveloped and unfenced large tracts of land, prairie, to explore and play in, in the near-the-Big-City suburb where I lived as a carefree kid (virtually no violent crime in those times and places). Fortunately, slimy slug tracks never included slugs! But there were muddy foundation trenches for the new houses being built in the subdivision, and they were a natural hazard….
