Meanwhile, here in Wisconsin, the local version of Trump, Gov. Scott Walker, is headed in the other direction: proposing to do away with that radical publication Wisconsin Natural Resources, published by the state DNR and its nefarious (but now laid-off) coterie of scientists who kept pointing out what climate change was doing to the state’s (ahem) “natural resources”. Golly, can’t have DNR staff protecting natural resources, can we?
are you suggesting that we learn from the past and do more keep out immigrants? certainly the Native Americans would have been better off had they been able to do that. i appreciate the gag but think it backfires if you actually think about it versus a more “we are a country of immigrants”, “give us your tired and huddled masses”, etc. line of argument. (unless you advocate for deporting all non-native groups and returning the land back – which maybe not a horrible idea.)
Tsk! Those RACIST Indians! Couldn’t they just accept newcomers of a different color/culture/language/religion, etc.? Why weren’t they more welcoming and accepting of those who just wanted to come here for a BETTER LIFE, to escape persecution in their home countries? So what if they came here ILLEGALLY? Why did they massacre helpless pioneer families who just wanted a small section of land to farm? Why did they single out for blame the few who wished them harm? Were they just afraid of being OVERRUN in a few years???
To zippy: Many of them did welcome Europeans, and look what it got them: genocide, genocide, genocide. As to “massacring helpless pioneer families,” that is a myth born of exaggeration—and many many more helpless Native Americans were massacred by European pioneers. Please, get your history straight.
My comment was intended as satire, actually: applying present mindset to past events. I guess we could welcome Islamic terrorists and get suicide, suicide, suicide bombers, lol. If the Chinese had discovered the New World it’s unlikely the Indians would have gotten treaties, reservations, and everlasting welfare payments, because they would have likely been wiped out entirely, as conquerors tend to do to those who resist.
All those negative comments about the “invaders” are actually directed toward our own ancestors; you know that don’t you? The ones who were brave enough to cross a dangerous ocean and start over in a new land. And ensured that WE would occupy the greatest nation ever.

It’s been published already: a pretty thick book called “A People’s History of the United States” by Howard Zinn.
