This is both sad and perverse. Sad because income disparities have become this bad, and perverse because so many of the rich sincerely believe they’re worth it.
Such vast economic disparities alone changes a country and its people. A bloodless coup by the top 0.01% turns your republic into a Plutocracy, i.e. rule of the very rich.
