At 14!? Well unless she was going to dedicate herself to physical fitness, the only other way is to eat less and move around more. But even that isn’t enough if the ideal is too alien to be real.
Annie sounds so positive and what a great message, except… when you stop worrying about your shape that often means you start getting seriously unhealthy and then things go from there.
SPOILER: Annie is going to pay a heavy price for letting herself go, so while this message seems positive today, ultimately the author has a different message in mind.
This is obviously another episode of “Elly vs. Belly”, which has been shown before. However, has there ever been a story arc, for instance, where Elly goes to the doctor and is warned she may have a heart attack or stroke, thus she gets on an exercise program out of that? I do not know what howtheduck was referring to, but I think that is a realistic strip where Annie’s “throw caution to the wind” attitude comes back to haunt her.
I agree with Annie. Not that you just let yourself go but stop obsessing about it and I wish I’d thought that way at 14 too, or 13 when my idiot cousin mocked me for not having “blossomed” yet. Instead of feeling worthless I’d have read him the riot act.

That’s the best attitude to have. Self-acceptance brings inner peace.
