And then there’s yet another smooth non-answer from Mr. Gorsuch. It would have been a neat touch if his adoring wife had been allowed to sit in his lap and soothe him from the answers of those bad Democrat people. Political theater, all of it.
The vacancy on the Supreme Court was only the most prominent of literally hundreds of vacancies to which President Obama had dutifully appointed qualified people that the Republican-controlled Senate refused to even consider, let alone confirm. They’ve long contended that government doesn’t work well, and this is one of the ways in which they hoped to underscore the point.
The Supreme Court pick should be put off until Trump’s Russian connections are fully explained. He is under an FBI investigation, a first for a sitting president.
And the Republicans will be just fine if they lose three senate seats in the mid terms, and then Democrats refuse to consider any SCOTUS nominee until after the next election.
Like hell! They’d cry, and bloviate, and talk about “stolen stolen stolen” until you’d think there was NO PRECEDENT WHATSOEVER.
Nothing but playground bullies who CAN’T STAND anyone who doesn’t kowtow and cater to them.
This ’toon is “dead-on”. This Supreme Court seat should belong to Merrick Garland unless disqualified for a legitimate reason, not political BS. The rules should be that no nominee can be disqualified without a proper hearing.
The toon has it, but it’s scarier to think of the some 100 plus lower court posititions he will also fill with culls, out to help them steal not just the courts, but the whole country.
If the Supreme Court seat couldn’t be filled because it was election year, surely it shouldn’t be filled because the President is being investigated for treason.
Oh…because no DEMOCRATIC congress has EVER done this before when a Republican president was in office…..Ahem…1) Sen Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said in 2007 that President George W. Bush shouldn’t get to pick any more Supreme Court justices because Schumer and prevented it. 2) In 1960, the Democratic-controlled Senate passed a resolution to block President Eisenhower from being able to make any more recess appointments to the Supreme Court. 3) In 2004, Schumer said he would do everything in his power to stop Bush from elevating Charles Pickering to a federal appeals court in 2004. 4) Senator Barack Obama said in 2006 that he supported the Democratic-led filibuster to stop Justice Samuel Alito from making it to the Supreme Court. 5) Kennedy led a gang of eight senators in 2003 to block Bush nominee Miguel Estrada from rising to the Court of Appeals. 6) Joe Biden wrote the playbook for how to “bork” a Supreme Court nominee, a descriptive verb that now means to publicly pillory a nominee’s reputation to make it politically difficult for senators to vote for them. 7) Democratic groups vowed to “bork” Justice Clarence Thomas, George H.W. Bush’s nominee to the Supreme Court. 8) In 2008, Democrats banded together to filibuster Bush’s decision to nominate Priscilla Owen to a federal circuit court.
Yeah, because what the republicans did NEVER happened before. Get over yourselves democrats, you play the game just as much.

The seat is tainted because of the Republicans outrageous refusal to consider Garland.
