We briefly had an artist studio in my town years ago. The guy did really macabre paintings of graveyards with zombies and other dark subjects which he displayed in his windows. And he had a sign in his window encouraging kids to hang out there. I got a really creepy feeling about both his paintings and the fact he wanted kids to hang around there. I would not have wanted any kid of mine (if I would have ever had kids) to hang around that creepy place. I was glad to see he left after just a few months.
I can relate to this strip, and I’m sure a lot of others can too. Bub is describing a very typical activity for kids growing up back “in the day”. Hangin’ out was a big part of after school life, just like today. Except we hung out with live friends instead of digital ones.
