Birds like to build nest in the holes in the frame under semi trailers. Imagine their surprise when I hook my tractor to it.

We once did without a/c for several weeks until a nest of robins vacated the nest they built outside the window.

We have a mama duck sitting on our front porch for a month now.

Is today’s strip meant to be an allegory of Gene’s current plight and Janis’ desire to help while Arlo struggles with leaving his grill?

A happy empty nest syndrome.

so happy there are yet some of us around that would appreciate a cartoon such as this one – those who would delay driving for a few weeks until the wrens or any other bird had vacated the premises – long live Arlo and Janis !

Are they saying they didn’t drive for WEEKS because of birds? How would you buy food or go anywhere?

This strip is for the birds

At work we had a golf cart sidelined for three months because of a bird’s nest with babies in 2016.

We had a truck we used for snow plowing in winter and scrap hauling in the summer at work. For four straight years we had a robin build a nest on the back tires. That truck sat til the babies were gone.

I love this! Bewick’s wrens have gone extinct in the last ten years on the east coast in part because they like to nest around humans (and their cats) too much, too close to the ground, and aren’t afraid enough of us. That plus the aggressive non-native house sparrows attack and kill them on their nests. Bewick’s are the friendliest of the wrens, and there’s still one last good population of them left in the San Francisco Bay area. I’ve had one fly halfway around my head singing for joy when I put out its favorite food. It’s a tiny bird with twenty-two songs and a strong voice. Thank you Arlo and Janis!

Because a drunk kid stove in the side of my Buick, I needed wheels real quick, bought a ‘71 Chevvy Vega and used that to get around while the local body shop did their leisurely deeds. Finally I got it back, was then stuck with two cars and one apartment-supplied garage. Took the Buick to OKC for a several week’s school, finally returning to find that “garage birds” had found that the cracked-open windows of the Vega made a fine entrance for them to nest and use the seats as a Porta-John. I’d rather had a feral cat ‘mark’ the place compared to the bird-poop that it took 3 months to clean up !!
