Happens on that scale less often than once in every 65 million years.

It wasn’t a comet. It was global climate change.

Caused by the meteorite and the release of huge amounts of methane on the other side of the world. It left a layer of iridium at the point of separation. No dinosaurs were found passed that iridium layer at the K/T extinction. About 65% of life died out then.

Now the end of the Permian (299 – 250 mya) it was Hot House Earth but it happened naturally and it took millions of years. When humans do it it may take a few thousand to a few hundred years. Some 99% of all life died out then it was 3 million more years of awful conditions that turned the oceans into near deserts of life. The torrid zone around the equator was 30 degrees N and to 35 degrees S too hot for most life to survive including many types of plants and very few animals. The sky probably turned green by then and the poles were temperate and free of ice. There was just one “tetropod” remaining. A planet you would pass up if you were looking for one to settle out there. Life struggled till conditions changed in the Triassic and the surviving Permian animals (ancestors of mammals) began to die out replaced by spry new dinosaurs came on the scene and the evolution of the planet changed direction from the mammal-like reptiles to the fleet of foot dinosaurs the ancestors of birds..
