Mrs. Nussbaum: I thought it, but didn’t want to say it. But now it’s been said, why not Allen’s Alley? Not sure if there’s another pun in there, but Nussbaum auf Deutsch (in German) means “nut tree.”
I don’t know about anyone else, but I am SO RELIEVED to see Walt and Portia again. Heather and the Wolf was getting depressing. (And that is a problem with some of Aaron’s stories – with no clear endings, let alone happy endings, sometimes this strip can get a bit depressing)
A brief reprieve from wolf troubles, showing that no matter who got killed, like goes on. The phone ringing is almost always bad news. Not just in End town.An early morning call can be the worst. At least for nite-owls like me. Unless we are vegan, we eat eggs often, without worrying if it would have been a chick. What bothers me is the way meat and egg chickens are raised. We raised some chickens a few years and knew they were happy because they would sing at night.
Anytime you feel Aaron Neathery’s stories are becoming depressing, you can always go and listen to his work in Electromatic Radio, an extremely funny radio series he wrote, produced and acted in. It available free in the public domain on-line. Hunt it down and listen to all the episodes. I’m a great fan of the series. You can learn about the ‘origin’ of the security rats, and Drakesville, and retro technology.
The avians have no choice but to lay eggs, and they’re going to be unfertilized, so there’s no onus of eating the unborn like in Unity. Very few reptiles lay unfertilized eggs, and I don’t think they’ll know which ones, so to be safe they’ll probably stay away from reptile eggs.
Portia does not get friendly phone calls. This is may be whoever’s been pressuring the pigs to disappear, again.

Of course, that phone ring in the middle of this moment of bliss does not bode well…

Now who could be calling at this hour? Don’t they realize breakfast is the most important meal of the day?

Those eggs sound like a metaphor for the people in that town … noone comes out completely intact.
