Who lets nine year-olds wear bikinis anyway?

Egads, Dakota’s friends have actual names. Felicia’s girl posse never got such an honor.

okay, let’s to the matter at hand about Phoebe’s concern of Dakota’s invitation possibly being a prank

As Lex Luthor says in the original Superman; “Now it’s not that I don’t trust you Otis, but… I don’t trust you.”

It’s “frenemy” Dakota, not “not friendship”! Can you listen to THAT?

And again Dana dodges the stereotype and lets a character have depth and credibility. Love this strip. Very different, but somehow reminds me of (the much-missed) Richard Thompson’s Cul de Sac.

Of course she listens when you talk! How else could have been teasing you about the things you say or do for all this time if she didn’t?

Phoebe must be wearing a shoe on her left foot at all times, it’s more untanned than Dakota (see third panel)!

Wow character development for Dakota. It had to happen eventually since they do hang around with each other.

Of course Dakota and her friends wear more revealing suits than Phoebe, whether to enjoy a tan, to flaunt their self-perceived beauty, or to practice for when it really matters to them.

I feel sorry for Phoebe in that one piece. Must be hard to get in and out of. And sometimes your body won’t let you fool with that.

I agree with Phoebe’s careful examination of this behavior anomaly.
