Technically, every Mesoamerican culture cultivated chocolate in that regard. Even the Aztecs and the Incas.
The Aztecs in particular were very strict about the role of chocolate in their society – the beans were used as currency, the chocolate (xocatol) was served in (single-use) solid gold cups (Emperor Montezuma in particular drank over 50 a day), it was even mixed with the washings from the sacrificial knife and given to the victims before the sacrifice. (With a bit of fermented agave and mescalin on the side.)
Why would they want to build a city road on top of a building? Here’s some pictures: http://www.odditycentral.com/architecture/five-storey-building-in-china-has-a-road-on-its-roof.html
A friend who grew up in Louisiana went back home a few years ago to visit. Her family wanted to send her back to impoverished Oregon with a cooler full of Jambalaya. She wasn’t sure if she could makeIt through TSA with such a thing, so when she called Baton Rouge airport to ask, their response was, “Well, you’d BETTER bring that cooler back to Oregon with you!”
…….I thank Baton Rouge TSA for their wisdom. It was delicious.

Wouldn’t it have been “cacao beans” instead of “cocoa beans”? Or do I have it wrong? I thought you get cocoa from cacao beans …

I just hate it when road repair leads to ceiling repair

Whereas an elevated highway is often a necessary eyesore, putting a building under it could mitigate some of the damage.

Chocolate is not cultivated—it is produced by adding vanilla flavoring to cocoa (cacao).
