Switched to decaf coffee years ago (for blood pressure) and never have been able to tell the difference in taste.
The only time I can tell the difference is on the rare occasion when I drink regular coffee on an empty stomach. I’ll get a bit jittery from the extra caffeine, but that’s it. And decaf does have caffeine in it, just not as much.
I picked up the coffee habit working mid shifts early in my career, along with anything else that might keep me awake during the wee hours. I only drank the stuff out of habit on days or swings…. didn’t really need it on those shifts, just liked it.
On the other hand, for me anyway, diet drinks taste absolutely horrible… 8^)

I have an ex-wife like that. She drinks almost as much as Adam.

Amazes me how different humans can be. I notice very little difference (in energy) between having caffeine and not.
