I’m surprised to see this cartoon from Mr. Alcaraz. He might remember, 9/11 gave voice and power to the anti-Latino immigrant politicians. Immigration reform appeared a sure thing until 9/11 happened. Latinos in the U.S. have suffered immeasurably from the “patriotism” wave that followed 9/11.

As I recall, that unity allowed our leaders to get us mired in a couple of unwinnable wars by playing on our fear of it happening again.

Harvey and Irma have done a pretty good job of uniting us again. Disasters, natural or manmade, have a tendency to do that, if only temporarily.
