This trick only works if the words you are using don’t already sound like insults. “inane” could be “insane”. “fatuous” could be “fat donkey” “inept” could be “inapt”. That last one is a stretch, but Brad only needs one of them to provoke him to violence.
Once again Michael’s non-friend Lawrence just stands by and watches Brad beat on his supposed buddy
Here is a line from an autobiography I recently read: Still Me by Christopher Reeve: "When going over the script for Superman, we had to do a lot of revisions because there were so many gags, puns and wordplay that risked turning the film into a farce, akin to Batman being associated with the campy TV show of the 1960s. In one scene of the original script of Superman the Movie, Superman is in pursuit of Lex Luthor, grabs a bald-headed man, only to find to he has abducted Telly Savalas, who remarks “Who loves ya, baby?” a la Kojak, and offer Superman a lollipop. Richard Donner had done away with much of that inanity."
Mike should have said something like this,"hey Brad,I liked that essay you handed in for History yesterday.Your observations were fatuous, and inane, and displayed how truly inept you are! Keep up the good work man!
Those words aren’t uncommon enough. What you need are some archaic words or Yiddish words like schlemiel or momzer. Or you can find any foreign language book and call them names in Japanese or Swahili.

If Brad didn’t know what those words mean, he figured they weren’t good.

Lynn’s Notes: I really liked the Brad Luggsworth character. Too bad I rarely included him. Maybe he was too mean to be believable!
