I actually lived/worked in that exact scenario. It didn’t get better for 8 years.

I worked for a company in the early 90’s that pulled that same thing. We were told that we had to take a 12% cut in pay. My contract had just been renewed and I wasn’t happy, so I spoke to an attorney that pointed out to me my job description, which did not include taking over for the CEO, GM, or Plant Manager when they wanted to go golfing. It also said that if my job was completed for the week that I could take the rest of the week off. For two months I busted my ass off, always couldn’t take over so they could play. It came to a head one day when Mike, the CEO called me into his office as I was leaving on Tuesday morning around 10:30 and wanted to know where I was going. I explained the situation to him and he told me that I should maybe check a job with another company. I said, “no, thank you.” and for the next four years enjoyed my two day work week with benefits.

Why am I not surprised? Humanity is getting so selfish, ego driven and just plain not-so-nice any more! Or is it only those in that proverbial 1%.

And this is one way you strangle the Middle Class till it is small enough to be drowned. Only for real. Death by a thousands cuts still kills. It just hurts for much, much longer.
