Fascinating. So, it seems Selkie can’t return to the sea (and her true form) without her pelt. Sonny may not yet realize it is in his bag under his bed. I love how this excellent strip embraces the fantastical. I suspect Sonny will save Selkie despite his heart being susceptible to suffering.
If it helps, dude, she actually does have a valid excuse that’s kept her away, and she’s not all happy about it herself (though she has made the best of it for the moment, I’m sure she’s still searching for her pelt so to go back home first chance she can).
