Five years ago this week, we took in a Jack Russell mix that was abandoned in our neighborhood. He was so frightened when we found him but has turned into a sweet little dog once we showered him with lots of love.
Nearly ten years ago, we adopted a two-year-old yellow lab mix who had been found in West Virginia, was transferred to a rescue group near us, was twice adopted and returned, and had been with a foster mom (and her dog and several cats) for two months. They told us she was an alpha who would need strong pack leaders. It took about six months for her to stop being anxious, and about a year before she clearly knew she had found her forever home. May Brian’s little foster find a forever home real soon!
Fostering for the local Humane Society is a great experience. You can help socialize, or get a puppy or kitten up to an age where they can be adopted out. You can help get them over a minor illness or keep an eye on one that might have bit or scratched someone.

Hardest part is letting them go.
