in real time and even when characters don’t age, seeing Rufus develop potential relationship with Leela and her children gives us hope of character development. Now, with reruns, we have lost that aspect of the strip. I appreciate all that Jim has done and I hope that he is in good health to continue Gasoline Alley for many years to come, with characters who age in real time. But this is not possible with reruns.
Slim might be like many older people. They raised their kids and loved them. They love their grandkids, but can’t stand the little monsters raised by everyone else.
So, these are RERUNS? I may have missed them before, but I was totally unaware these are reruns. Someone also mentioned health and Mr. Scancarelli. Is there some sort of news about Jim that I missed too?!? I also am very hopeful that Jim is ok and that he plans to continue drawing and writing Gasoline Alley for a very long time!
Yes these strips originally ran in November, 2008. To me it’s a shock that he is so avoiding drawing Wallet family episodes he has taken to using previous material of them now. GA will celebrate 100 years in 2018 and I have high hopes it will be a memorable year of story arcs more interesting than the recent Joel and Rufus escapades.
Slim and Clovia’s daughter lives in Europe and their son lives in the deep forest, so it’s not exactly a close-knit family. Remember when his daughter showed up unexpectedly (with the dog), and he didn’t even recognize her right away?

Remember what Mr. Fields said about people who hate kids and dogs.

Slim doesn’t like kids? Since when? He has kids and grandkids and has always been shown to be a loving father/grandfather.

A rare admission in the final panel which, I suspect many agree with but would never admit in a public setting.
