Coming Soon 👀 At the beginning of April, you’ll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
Like Kathleen above, I learned to read with comic books. Hospitalized at five years old for two weeks in 1959, a slightly older kid helped me learn. Upon returning to school, I was about a year ahead of everyone!
The reason Golden Age comics are valuable is that everyone’s Moms eventually threw them out, so only a tiny fraction survived. My boxes of 1950s Dells were lost in a move, but of course even if I still had them they would be of very little value to collectors, because I read them over and over and wore them out!
Thank you Mr. Gilchrist for keeping these comics alive! Sometimes I’ll see what you have drawn and remember one’s I’d forgotten, like Roy Rogers and remember the classics like Ivanhoe redrawn in comics for kids?

I used to have a foot locker full of 10 cent comic books. All thrown away when I joined the Navy.

Well, old Timely’s are like gold.
BTW, Guy, The Human Torch was Carl Burgos, not Stan Lee. Lee wasn’t the big cheese at Timely. When he started, he worked for Joe Simon.

These days comics cost dollars, not cents.

She could buy a “Fritzi Ritz” comic book and predict if she’s receiving a spanking for bad grades

Has the price really changed? Back then one could buy an ice cream cone for a dime and for another nickle a whole hamburger!
