Funny, I’ve read this strip since the onset decades ago. And I still don’t remember this story arc. The most memorable of all of the guest characters remains Mac.
“Five years older” is significant in catworld. I remember one of the two times I’ve seen it snow where I live in Phoenix in the last thirty-five years, and all the neighborhood cats were walking around looking at the sky, obviously thinking something like “I’m seven years old and I’ve never seen anything like this happen in all my life!”
I remember the cans of really cheap cat food-none of this fancy feast crud. Puss’n’boots was good enough: processed fish cannery leftovers. It smelt bad coming out of the can and even worse when it came out the other end.

Cat food came in what we called “cans”! Now THAT’S funny! Because they ARE cans!

When I was a boy you had to walk 5 miles just to complain to a neighbor. Not like today when you can gripe on the Internet where no one will care.
