I notice that the British still use the original definition of the word “homely” … (of a place or surroundings) simple but cozy and comfortable, as in one’s own home. perhaps Sluggo should adopt UK terminology and be happy.
Is this the one where Sluggo decides that a binary gender code is insufficient and shortly thereafter steals a bunch of Nancy’s clothes and moves to New York where Lou Reed writes “Take A Walk On The Wild Side” about him?
That reminds me of a 1932 Flip the Frog cartoon. WARNING: Racist, sexist, brutal images! (And now that I have your attention, the wall of masks is unforgettable.)
In panel #2, does that mirror image of Sluggo’s head, face and upper-body look okay as a mere mirror-image to you folks?
I’m not sure about it because it reminds me of a peculiar approach Ernie took to book covers where a book has a title printed onto its front cover.
What seems like a frequent pattern to me, Ernie would put the name of the book on the back cover of a book, which appears to be some kind of graphic spatial dyslexia; example below:

In later years, Sluggo would switch to a Guy Fawkes mask…

I didn’t think so either.

Doesn’t matter how you look. Many “goils” go for the bad boy image!

That was the joke about Lady Bird Johnson when she had a program to beautify the nation. Someone joked she could begin by putting a bag over her head.

Ernie didn’t do this all the time for every book cover with a title printed on it, just some of the time.
I’ve always found it to be a peculiar pictorial bug, that perhaps became a feature for Ernie.
