Animals really don’t care if we eat meat, as long as they themselves aren’t on the menu. As for plants, I am not sure, but I would say that they feel the same as the pets do.
Problem is, we depend on eating other living beings, to survive. The only living beings that are “morally correct” in this sense are plants and some algae.

Cats can’t be vegetarians. They are obligate carnivores. Meat is a biological necessity for them.
