Why in the world would a group of hockey moms, whose general business it should be to support the kids’ hockey league, have any responsibility for keeping a hockey rink in good repair? Wouldn’t that fall to the people who actually own the rink?

Why are these ladies even part of a committee when El conducts most of it?

What did you expect Elly, when you were the one doing all the talking?

This is proof (as if any is needed) that it can be better to keep your ideas to yourself, unless someone’s actual health or safety is involved. The minute you suggest something, people will assume you’re volunteering to get it done…

Assign it to one of those other loosers who have not done anything yet

The one who brings up the issue is always the one who has to take care of it!

She should had said, ‘’We need SOME volunteers..’’.

Notice the way they’re all looking the other way when Elly asks for volunteers?

The way to do it is to assign people right away: “We need somebody [blah blah]. Louise, you will do a great job! Pick some assistants.” It is the cure for organizations with people who are doing nothing yet.

Well, it’s her idea! If she’s not willing to do it. Then she shouldn’t have suggested it!

Sorry, Elly, you raised the issue, you are automatically volunteered to fix it. Now get out there and flood that rink!

My pastor used to say that if you came to him with an idea for a new ministry, be prepared to start it up yourself.

I think it is Cardwell’s Law of Voluntary Associations: Those who will work, get overworked.

The best way to find yourself working hard as a volunteer is to make a suggestion. That’s been my experience.

This is how, years ago, I found myself organizing an entire Fourth of July parade, Running Operation Merry Christmas (almost by myself) and starting. running, and organizing a Candy Striper Program at the local Hospital. At 81 my husband is still at it, on 3 different committees and vice chairman of our Homeowners Assoc. It never goes away!
