Save often, backup everything. Unfortunately, most folks will only learn this lesson the hard way. With over 40 years in tech, I’m convinced you can’t teach common sense, people won’t listen until it’s too late, and maybe not even then.
Autosaving backups has been standard in the Office programs for about a decade. I don’t even have to enable the function in newer computers. You’d think almost any desktop app (be it for writing, calculating, programming, art, animation, games, etc.) would have some version of that functionality.

I save all my writing onto two flash drives. I’m considering additional copies as well.
