Where did the fable of ostriches burying their heads in sand come about then? (How long until another NHL player retires his number to accompany Wayne?)
Gordie Howe’s number 9 probably isn’t retired for there are a lot of other great number 9s in the NHL that is retired by their NHL team with Bobby Hull being one of them (which was a tribute to Howe). Gretzky 99 is probably an honor for the both of them.
I don’t know which platform animators use (Matte board, canvas, etc.) but, that combination of solvents (especially acetone) will destroy a lot of those!
Uh….I think those cartoon writers should find a substitute for the benzene. Benzene can really screw with bone marrow. God forbid any of them get cancer, they may have trouble getting chemo or radiation treatments because the bone marrow won’t be producing enough red blood cells. My dad was exposed to benzene throughout his whole career as a chemical engineer and once he was diagnosed with cancer, he died in six months.
A lot of great animation art was lost because, as a cost-saving measure, film studios used benzene and turpentine to clean animation cels for re-use. If you were to use acetone on the (cellulose acetate) cels, they would dissolve.
When animators made a mistake, they would just scrape the paint off, whereas Judge Doom wanted to destroy the entire structure of his cartoon victims.

Spilled acetone and plastic on the workbench have led to several disasters in my career.

all of those “cleaners” are banned because they cause cancer.
