One happy family. Good luck to you Irma with Uncle Hitch. Looks like things are going well for the Bergers. And thank you Greg for giving puddles a break. This is a nice Sunday arc.
To all those commenting on the amount of food being prepared, most receipts are written for a serving of 4. It is difficult to cook for just 2 unless you are intend to use the leftovers for other meals. Of course, she could just be expecting the rest of “her boys” to be arriving at any moment. It looks like the Sunday dinners I used to have at my folks place.
So, almost a year ago Irma invites Les to dinner in an attempt to give Gunther a new friend, in light of Quill’s departure. Gunther and Les have a not-so-good history, but neither Irma or Mr. Gray are aware of this history. Gunther tries vainly to school Irma on this history but she and Gray still force the two antagonists together. And yet Irma’s the genius. I call bulls&$?.
….anyone who can wear polka dots that can get near a plaid-clad-lad, without the room exploding in a ‘pattern collision’, must have some ‘cool genius’ calmly and discreetly going on…..
She cooks one meal on Sunday. They then eat the same foods the other six days! My sister had a co-worker who did that. On Sunday, she would make a big pot of something and they would eat that continuously until it was finished! YUCK!
Gunther’s mom is trying to comfort him about sharing a “tiny house” with Les. What will Al Gray do settle Les down? Threaten to have his parole revoked?
Think all it shows is that she loves her son, loves to cook and make things very comfortable for him, and OVER MOTHERS him. I think the marriage will be the best thing that could happen to both of them, no matter Les (not being more -:) maybe.
I think that this drawing was made having no connection to the current arc. It looks like it is Gunther’s welcome home from Peru, and the fridge has Greg’s name looking like a reference to a bible verse.
Of course, if this comic was of a darker ilk, they could be having a celebration feast, and Gunther is complementing his mother on getting rid of the bodies. Say goodbye Mr. Gray, forget about Tiffany, leslie.
Oh. Just one more thing. I noticed today that Gunther no longer seems to mind His Mom calling Him “Gunthie,” any more. Looks like Gunther has finally gotten over His “Sullenness and Anger,” that so many “Accused” Him of.
That is, until Tiff starts playing “nice” with Les…..,
Holy moly! Is that much food intended for just two people? Or is the “Dinner at Ma Berger’s” gang (including Mr. Gray, Leslie Knox, Tiffany Farrell, and several strangers who just wandered in off the street) coming to join in? But, regardless, yes, Irma is a genius!
A really sexist comic. The man is doing the studying and the woman is doing the cooking. Many comics are written by older men and are incredibly sexist. No one is calling them out on it. Well I am. In our household we BOTH study and BOTH cook!

That would explain why Gunther studies in there.

….of course, the fact that she can whip up a feast for nine in three panels can’t hurt, either….

…and the fact that she raised up that ‘smart guy’ with her God-given talents and parental skills from birth also ‘kinda’ helped….

No apparent red, or hearts in the strip, but Irma may well be Gunther’s only Valentine this year.

What is that pink and green layered food? I never put dessert on the table with the meal. We eat dessert an hour or more after dinner is over.
