Spot on, Arlo! If I remember correctly, dancing was a tribal rite of passage that usually preceded (or was required), prior to intimacy that is colloquially called “hooking up” today. I think… it was a long time ago.

Q: Why do Baptists not make love standing up? A: Because someone might think they’re dancing.

Dancing “for exercise” is just an excuse for having fun.

I’m definitely an old fogey. I prefer to hear recorded music coming from a phonograph, not a phone.

My dad, a Methodist, used to joke that the reason Methodists don’t sleep well at night was because they were convinced that somewhere, someone was enjoying themselves ~ and then he’d laugh. In my opinion, if you can poke fun at yourself and your beliefs, it shows a healthy mental attitude! But the humor must always be ‘gentle’, never biting or sarcastic – and, even then it’s liable to be misconstrued, so it’s usually better to not attempt the “humor” at all!

Good way for a young man to get a chance to see all of a girls jiggly bits jiggling.

As a former Baptists myself, the joke is “Why are Baptists against premarital sex? Because it might lead to dancing.”
