Coming Soon 👀 At the beginning of April, you’ll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
Jets will make noise ,the kind that will really set the neighbourhood a jumping .
Some neighbour may see the writing in the snow ,and may not find it very funny.
There actually have been barrel rolls performed on airliners, several with some consequences. Fellow I knew was an investigator, and told me of one or two, one involving a flames-out over the Pacific where the plane dropped from something like 35,000 feet to lower than 5,000 before they got it running again. Made the news. And the passengers didn’t know …
Good morning all, I have never posted, but have been reading this strip and all of your comments for months. Great community here.
BTW, I dont think Calvin can be making any letters in the first three panels.. an “L” would go in the opposite direction and if it was a “T” in the third panel, then the letter in panel two would have to be an “S” which it clearly is not.. lol
I know, maybe I am thinking too hard, but it was driving me NUTS!
Calvin good try letters need to be wider and bigger. Beside after all that walking and pushing all that snow 1) how did the snow stay , 2) how you keep from freezing? I know you have winter coat and hat on.
Ratlum - you are absolutely right - my mother lives in a jet pilot training area, and you cannot believe how LOUD they get when they do fly-overs - HAVE to wear hearing protection if you’re outside doing gardening, etc.
@Rise22==Maybe your mom and are neighbors. I live in city with pilot training base and am almost under the flight path. One plane crash (no casualties/pilot baled) was one mile from my house. Years ago city built grade school on land where a crash occurred, also less than a mile from my house. Only salvation on noise problem is they return to base at dark.
Having done a barrel roll or two (not in an airliner), I can tell you any passengers WOULD know. Aside from loking at a vertical horizon or looking up at the ocean and down at the sky (depending where you are in the maneuver), there would be a couple of G’s involved. Unless it is done very quickly (probably faster than the plane could roll), the enginese shouldn’t flame out.
However, there is a well documented case of a Boeing Test Pilot rolling one of their airliners over Lake Washington.
Being first and $10 will buy you a $5 cup of Starbucks.
I was driving on a narrow sparsely-traveled state highway in the backwoods of Kershaw County SC one day, and I heard something behind me. As I looked in the mirror, two A-10’s from Myrtle Beach AFB (when it was there) swooped over me at tree-top level, doing a practice tank-kill run. I ducked my head, in the car, low enough to see the second one waggle his wings as they climbed up again. Very, shall we say, exciting.
While doing some work on the main Dallas Naval Air Station, they switched to the shorter NW/SE runway where the approach was right over the duplex we were renting. Many’s the night, with landing lights illuminating our whole bedroom, I felt like they were pre-spinning their wheels on our roof prior to touchdown.
Looking at the foot prints and seeing he started from Roll and worked his way to Hey, I really don;t think it is the T and S. But I do not see any good choices.
I keep trying to be the last one to post so my comment is less apt to be read. That is hard to do with so popular a strip.
It does help that I sleep in till around 10 AM. Getting hard to do with the missus making so much noise puttering around the house for three or four hours.
dflak, a properly executed barrel roll should be a steady state 1g maneuver. An aileron roll, or a snap roll would be a different story.
The fact it was only a 1g roll is one thing that saved Tex Johnsons butt from the big wigs at Boeing when he rolled the Dash 80.
For a little kid, Calvin can sure move a lot of snow in a short time. This looks like real work to me, and yesterday he made a maze from the front door to the car. His dad did not appreciate.
Looking at the sequence of footprints, he had to have started with “Hey” and ended with “Roll” and then walked around to the side. On a couple of the words he would have had to retrace his steps to get on to the next word.
This is important to figure out in the grand scheme of things!! LOL
Last post? This is nothing but a blatant attempt to be last. No need to reply.
So, does the winner of the “last comment” competition need to post their comment before the next day’s comic appears? Otherwise, theoretically, someone could post a “last” comment here for January 26th several days from now; but it seems like that would be sort of like cheating.
HOBBES” We both posted at the same time, but yours was longer so mine posted before yours. I’ll let you in on why I think you are BW. You only post on Calvin, while all the other commenters post and post and post. Keep on denying it, but if I want to believe, I will.
I’ve been last poster on all these comics more often than Marg has been first! Comes from still reading them at 10:10pm PST when the comics update. It’s kinda lonely though…
Hobbes: It’s the top of the EL on BARREL. The pattern clearly shows he started and spelled BARREL backwards…
But I bet I won’t be the last post even as late as it always is when I finally get to read the strip. It’s better this way as I get the chance to read all the first posts.
Its 630 on the west coast of BC.the strip dose not change till,at least 1130 or later.
Today is going to be a record of comments if every one stays up to be last.
If your not last you could be first wow I like the sound of that.
The comments are not on the same time-space continuim that we are I have posted and then refreshed to find that my comment was posted 5 minutes ago. Only to hit refresh two minutes later to find another comment before mine that wasn’t there before and that my comment was only posted 2 minutes ago.
So, considering that and the fact that eventually the tracking changes to about an hour ago, etc. Who is to say that someone couldn’t comment at 15 minutes after turnover and claim they posted last the previous day?
Or maybe they will post last in our time and show up third to last in GoComics time?
Good point Ooops, I’ve noticed the time and order discrepancies also. Perhaps GoComics is on relativistic time. That could mess up the order if some posters are able to type at rates approaching the speed of light.
I knew it! I didn’t expect or even try to win…………… but Lonewolf’s comment was already there for at least four minutes before I posted my comment and now my comment is three minutes after his!!!
One time Marg posted first and I posted second. But after a few minutes, the order was switched and my comment was first. So I had to delete mine and retype it to make it second again. Maybe GoComics is toying with us…..
If Sojo won the turnover round, how is the winner of this round decided? If one of our great, great grand children comment in 137 years are they the winner?
I am visiting the future here from a different parallel universe rather than going back into the past. So don’t think of it in that way. But MAYBE I still won anyway!;)

In a passenger airliner? Good luck with that, Calvin. Unless you live near a military air base.

Seems obvious to me that the letters are the L and then the E in barrel, for some reason calvin is writing backwards, our view is upside down.
