No one over 25 has time to do all of that. Arlo will catch on and ditch or rotate the options like most people. In my case, I haven’t paid for cable or a landline in about 10 years.
I dropped cable years ago and have no regrets. I get everything I need in streaming form for cheaper in the long run. Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, Sling. All the shows and movies my family likes. Even my 10 year old doesn’t remember a time we had cable. Now when we visit family that has cable, he hates it. “Can we fast forward through all these commercials?” “No son…you have to sit through them.”
When cable first came to our area in the 70’s, we said, “Who would pay for television when we can watch it for free?” And they said, “But on cable, there won’t be any commercials!” And we said, “OK, then, hook me up!”
“Nickel and dime you to death” was one of my father’s favorite sayings. Especially re autos more that two years old. He was right. Except the nickels and dimes have inflated by several orders of magnitude.
If I am remembering correctly, it was in a Jetsons cartoon I was watching when I was a young child, where I first encountered the concept of paying for TV.
That was a concept that struck me as too far fetched! So much so, that I’ve remembered seeing it all these years! The flying cars, Rosie the robot, etc., those didn’t bother me. I didn’t expect to see anything like that in my own lifetime, but they were fun ideas to imagine.
We don’t have any of them…did have Netflix when they sent disks but stopped when they stopped doing it. We own the “old shows” we like to watch both hour long and half hours ones and have our own network, CSBM and love it each and every evening…..plus tons of movies we like too.
I have over a thousand movies on vhs. So easy to skip commercials on channels that have them with a vintage vcr that has commercial skip feature. Other tapes were made free at the time when hbo, showtime and other stations ran promos. Others as well were closeout tapes for 10 or 25 cents when rental stores closed up.
I have never had cable or satellite tv. When it comes to tv programs, I am fairly illiterate. I would much rather spend my evenings playing music, reading, crocheting or sewing.

And it will only get worse.
Unless and until we ourselves band together and stop it.

A simple solution that Arlo should consider: Stop watching television.

I worked for Group W Cable back in the ‘80s and didn’t get cable installed, even though it would have been free.

No one forces anyone to subscribe to any of these services. Find something else to fill your time.

But, having to pay for TV! Preposterous!

Is anyone paying to watch Stat Trek Dicovery? I’m a Stat Trek fan from way back but I’m not going to pay for cable AND CBS access.
