When we get high winds around here (in the land of the duststorm), it’s fun to watch how the different kinds of birds react. Little ones like sparrows and finches disappear somewhere to wait it out. Most bigger ones like pigeons stay out but remain on the ground. The grackles, however, take the opportunity to practice elaborate aerobatic stunts that they can’t do when it’s calm.
Yes, I came from dust storm country, too. Even, the Oklahoma state song opens with “where the wind comes sweeping down the plain,” right after the state name. It is very accurate.
I once studied a world map that showed the land contours, and it showed that the flat plains continued up past the Arctic Circle and into Siberia, also flat. The north wind we get in winter is what the weather people have been calling the “Siberian Express.”

My dog, however, won’t put more than her nose out the door this morning. Very high winds.

I remember living in the land of the duststorm. We weren’t even allowed outdoor recess on those days.

Snow, high winds. I’d be more concerned about freezing my stones off just wearing a robe and PJs out there,
