I’m not sure how i feel about this comic today as i am living in a city where total lack of rain has raised the genuine concern of the taps running dry.
Knock it, if you will, the method has a proven track record in many areas of the world. Our sprinkler installer used a dowsing rod to successfully locate the runs of an older system that was put in by the previous owner but never clearly marked.
When my father was building their new place up in northern PA he doused for the well. He marked his spot and when the guys came to perk and drill, they ended up sinking the well just 6 inches from his mark.

If he’s looking for a water source, we’re OK. If he’s looking for the pipes, we’re in trouble.

I’ve seen it done with a willow branch. I watched close, the guy didn’t move his hands but the branch bent. (?)
