Metromart patents the drug before Harrison, who finds out it’s Lila’s fault and fires her. Things look bleak for Lila until she finds out about a job offer which happens to be the same job Boyd was fired from. She takes it, and the comic strip world is brought back to order. Oh, and the blond guy takes all the credit.
Why does JWF hate blond(e)s so much? Did they kidnap his dog or spread cootie-related rumors about him? It’s no coincidence that every evil person on this strip is blond(e).
Well, the formula wouldn’t do Metromart any good. By now Harrison has gotten the patent application filed and all, if not already patented. Metromart would have to do, about, $30-$50 million in testing before they could even begin to apply for a patent. Besides, the formulas of pharmaceuticals, unlike Coca Cola and Pepsi, are part of the patent process. If Metromart came out with a similar drug a couple of years down the road (about the time it would take)… too late, and Harrison would sue and hit Metromart for all the profits they made off the drug. If Harrison is working this drug it is extremely well-documented, believe me. I have a child who works in pharma and she tells me what it takes to get a drug approved for sale in the US. Sorry, John and LA. I love the comic but this is a bust.
I just want to know why she was given it in the first place? She’s a rep, they don’t need the formula, they just need a write up of what it does and the potential side affects, a company credit card to spoil the doctors and staff with and a buttload of samples to give to those docs she convinces to dispense the drug,
Thanks, hawgowar, for your comment, This is a comic strip, but to keep things as real as possible, remember that MetroMart is a company much like Walmart and probably has assets larger than most pharmaceutical firms. And while a patent pending provides some legal protection, the door is still open…especially if Harrison hasn’t dotted all its i’s…and let’s face it, what company these days doesn’t make mistakes…(hello Toyota)…just saying. That said, I certainly don’t want to lead anyone into what will happen with this storyline.
i’m actually hoping there is a critical (and by that i don’t mean deadly, but potentially very ugly) flaw in the formula that is discovered AFTER metromart starts selling and bought by a metromart consumer.
they would have to either take all the blame or own up to stealing the formula
I’m guessing it would be easier legal-wise to take the blame,
then Harrison could quitely fix the flaw and remarket it as new and improved, but i’m not all that sure on the intricacies of patent laws.

Can you say “setup?”
I’m gonna bet Harrison hired Lila in part to setup Metromart..

C’mon Doc, we all know that such is the only kind of corporation that exists. Even our liberal friends can tell us that…over and over and over again.
