The only old photos I’ve ever thrown away were of scenery. I can always find more professional photos of a countryside online. But if there are people in the photos (even if they’re strangers) I like to keep them.

Cleaned out old photo albums a couple years ago. I kept only family and friend pictures and tossed out about 10 whole albums. Lots of people I no longer see and can’t remember their names anyway!

Hubby’s aunt kept a photo album from the time she was a teen until well into her 40s. People and places – long gone family members, photos from WWII (she was an Army Nurse), everything neatly labeled with names and dates. She’d always promised the books to Hubby, and when he went to her funeral her daughter promised she’d make sure he got “them thar pitchures.” A few weeks later he received a lump envelope in the mail. The daughter had torn out every single photo and sent them to him. When he called to find out about the album itself, the daughter replied, “Ah don’t know you wanted all thet ol’ wrightin’ and stuff. Ah burnt thet book in the fahr.” (You have to read that part with a deep mountain accent.)

It’s the only time I’ve ever known him to weep.

I lost my family albums when I didn’t have the money to pay for the storage locker. It still hurts.
