My grandfather worked in the Cheney Silk Mills in Manchester, Ct. ( which, BTW was called The Silk City ). One of their divisions, Pioneer Parachute was the major manufacturer of silk parachutes used in World War II.
By the time this cartoon was done, Duke’s parachute paradise would have been nylon, not silk. But, I suppose, Nylon City has a less romantic connotation, than Silk City.
