I went to Google Images to see what it looks like and wow, I almost forgotten about those vehicles! I remember seeing them back in the late sixties and early to mid 70’s.
I don’t think I’ve read this series of Peanuts strips since I was in middle school in the late 70s. Now that I’m (much, much) older, I get the XK-E reference!
It’s like watching Bugs Bunny cartoons as an adult and getting some of the humor you didn’t get as a child.
When I was a kid, I had little toy car models of “hot” cars, including the XK-E. So what kind of new car have I bought my whole life? Toyota. Although I did have one that was a limited model, called the “Town and Country”, with racing stripes, wide mag wheels, hemi engine(2-cylinder), 4 to 1 gear ratio in 1st, and a tach out on the hood. I had a drag race with an Opal GT the second night I had it. Off the line, I smoked the tires and peppered the flagman with pebbles. I was winning but said to myself “what the heck am I doing?” and let off. I think he knew I let him win and he didn’t gloat… much…
We have an XKE. Yes, they do make great driveway cars; They are guy magnets. A friend of ours raced one in SCCA in the 70’s/80’s. He had a factory sponsorship. They gave him an XKE to drive on the street, too, but he preferred the Oldsmobile that came with the oil distributorship he’d bought. (The Olds had a heater that worked.)

The Bunny-wunny franchise must have really taken off, for them to be riding around in an E-type!

Hey Snoopy. Fang needs your help. He’s been getting annoying calls from Marmaduke.
