Of course because this comic strip often uses sound effects like âPUSH PUSH PUSHâ to let you know what the character is doing, we donât what is happening here. Is the doctor saying it, is John yelling it, is Elly saying it, or is the author trying to tell the reader that Elly is pushing? I actually hope all those things are true.
I didnât need to be coached for pushing â my body did all the talking. All my gyn did was sit there and watch the monitor and wait for the baby to make its appearance. However, my husband said I almost squeezed his hand off so with our second, he kept his hands to himself. Lol.
Wasnât close for the birth of two of our daughters but was in labor room for third. They had all the new(at the time)equipmentâwas fascinated by the âfetal monitorâ kept telling wife when she was having a contraction and how big it was !! Like âCapricorn9thâ, almost lost my hand as she said thru âgritted teethâ âTELL ME ABOUTâ !! !
âPushâ, my Aunt Fanny! You donât âpushâ until you are ready to push! There are hours of pain before you even think about pushing the baby out. The time it takes for your muscles to pull that opening wide enough for a baby to get through the birth canal, is the most painful. And can take a long time. Especially with a first baby. (not the case here)
Someone once asked Carol Burnett what childbirth was like. She responded, âGiving birth is like taking your lower lip and forcing it over your headâ.
