I know it is not about me because I am separate from, (and clearly better than), the rest of humanity.

I can’t hear the word obdurate and not think of the Muppets.

    Pink pomp and citrine circumstance.

    .

    From Othello:

Farewell the neighing steed and the shrill trump,

    The spirit-stirring drum, th’ear-piercing fife,

The royal banner, and all quality,

Pride, pomp, and circumstance of glorious war!

From several hundred years down the road, things usually appear quite foolish.

You will never convince contemporaries of the age of that fact, however.

They cannot ever see that future.

I rarely if ever don academic regalia, but even so I can be as obdurate as any lesser frogs.

Fight fiercely, Harvard (or Yale, or Chicago, or Stanford, or West Texas A & M, or whomsoever you favor)!

Aristophanes said it best. I need not repeat. Prepare the next two scenes for tomorrow’s class, my classical tadpoles!
