We live on a small, wooded lake. At night the frogs, crickets, owls and other things that go “screech” in the night are well heard. Towards dawn hundreds of birds take over with song and counter-song of multiple species.
My son came to visit and complained. “How can you sleep? It sounds like a jungle out there.” To my wife and me, it’s the music by which we sleep.
In the evening, we’ll often sit on our screened in porch (mosquitoes and other annoying pests are also part of living on a wooded lot), the TV is in the living room, turned off. The computers are all in sleep mode. Phones are ignored. And all we do is listen – oh yeah, there’s some wine sipping going on too.

My parents used to have a parrot. He outweighed the kittens, and by the time they were cats they all knew better than to mess with him.
