Which is why, even though they look like overgrown rats, I kinda respect them.

One thing that wasn’t mentioned but I found in my research is that because of the possums lower body temperature, most pests and diseases don’t live in opossums (they don’t spread rabies or much of anything else). They are very clean. And they clean up after other animals and get a bad rap. So if you see one, let them be – they are doing a good job.

It is one of the ugliest creatures I have ever seen, and they do live around here. I have a rule. Don’t bother me and I won’t bother you. They don’t want to hang around me. And I reciprocate. So I and the other wildlife around get along fine.

Anything that reduces the tick, or any other biting pest, population is a good thing and should be preserved. Up with bats, too.

Sooo…every time you run over one of these creatures, you increase the tick population by 5,000?

I hear rabies is not as prevalent as may think.

If you are ever lost in the country find a ’possum trail. They all lead to a highway.
