As a teacher, I have also received gifts from unexpected pupils and this strip brought tears to my eyes.

That is a risk that you have to take Mike. Of course another one is that Mrs. Hardacre will now have even higher expectations for you in the coming months!

kissing a pupil was ok in the ‘80’s … try that now, and you’re out on your arse, and labelled a predator. Oh, how times have changed!

Allan V––Most of the schools down here have outlawed hugging as well. While I kind of get it for high schools, it’s just sad for elementary schools. Seems like sometimes what the small children need more than anything is a hug.

Allan V: it took me a long time to figure out why the politicians are so obsessed with preventing any physical contact between students and teachers. It finally became clear a few years back, when it seemed there was an endless parade of politicians being caught in various forms of sexual misconduct. I’ve concluded that whatever gene causes people to seek a life in politics also turns them into sexual predators. And, assuming that people who pursue more useful careers (like teaching) are just like them, the politicians feel they have to pass laws and regulations to protect the kids from what they (the politicians) would do if they were given the chance.

I agree - it’s the little kids that often need a hug - and it breaks my heart when I have to rebuff them (I drive a school bus). If you remember the Stella Awards, the guy that does the TRUE Stella Awards, Randy Cassingham, has a real case against all the “zero tolerance” nonsense that’s become so rampant in our schools, especially. Check out

When I was in school, no contact was considered appropriate in any grade, and so it should be. Teachers are not supposed to be friends, they are supposed to be TEACHERS.

We’ve had a couple of ugly incidents locally; and not in the high schools. It’s my belief that forty years of ‘socialization’ as education has very badly blurred the boundaries for all kinds of people, and teachers are not immune.

Ugh! A kiss from that teacher, Michael! But it will be so nice to give the teacher a spectacular gift for Christmas. That teacher should be deserve it for working hard to teach the children to play on the stage for Santa/Christmas show. Give the teacher a wonderful compliment!

Enjoy having a Happy Holidays, y’all!

    Nab–

You were fortunate she was apparently worth considering. I never had any in college. But I was no naive then.
