I can’t say what it’s like now, but when I lived there in the early 90’s I could get red beans and rice with Portuguese sausage at McDonalds and Jack in the Box had a decent rice bowl or two on their menu. A lot of the fast food places had items that with a local flavor as well as the typical main land choices.
What you need to do is travel to other countries… you’ll find most of the fast food places you’re familiar with but they will put a local spin on the menu choices. Even common stuff like fries can be very different. I really liked the McDonalds fries on Okinawa (in the late 70’s). I don’t know what in particular they did different but they were much better than the typical US offering of the time.
I loved finding out where the locals ate and then go there. There are some great local haunts in Maui with fabulous food and reasonable prices. Tipping well assures you will be welcome back
Interestingly, when I first went to Hawaii and ate at a McDonald’s, it was a great hamburger! The only explanation I could come up with is that they got their beef locally.

I have to admit my first meal in Hawaii was at a McDonalds!

At a McDonald’s in Maui, you can get a Moco Loco, which is a ball of rice topped with spam, topped with brown gravy. Mmmmm, I’m not loving it!

I don’t understand photographing a meal. Maybe if it was a 17 course state dinner…. Even then who wants to see it.

Moose Mcgillycuddy’s. After 2 of their long islands, you won’t care what you’re eating.
