Actually “X” in medieval times was the symbol of Christ.
People who could only sign their name with an “X” then swore to Christ that it was them. And Xmas meant Christmas. So people who say get the X our of Xmas, mean “take Christ out of Christmas,” without really meaning what they think that they are saying.
