Roland may be the lucky one.

 

Just a gallon or two, in a couple of hours, especially without well-balanced electrolyte intake,

but sometimes even with it, with insufficient perspiration and urination,

can cause hyponatremia, or water intoxication, and even kill a person.

 

Even if they were marching 10 hours a day, sweating in the heat….

six gallons would be extreme.

Spaced evenly over 24 hours, a quart an hour, it’s still near the limit human kidneys can process.

Back in the sixties hydration was considered to be something you trained to do without. Our football coach forbid any water during practices.
