“Make you play hooky.” Right…. More like, “Let you play hooky.”

A pretty good memory for him as an adult. And it doesn’t seemed to have done any damage. “Sometimes” isn’t going to hirt

No different than if you took your kid out of school for a doctor’s appointment. As long as he is not missing a test, once in a blue moon occasion is ok. I’ll bet he works twice as hard in the classroom tomorrow. This, coming from a former teacher.

LIke a child’s going to ruin their academic career, not get into Harvard, and end up in a dead-end job because he or she was taken of class for one afternoon.

One of my best memories is going to an afternoon World Series game with my Dad! (Back in the day those actually existed!) The only teacher who expressed “displeasure” with my absence the next day was just jealous he wasn’t there!

I have a fond memory of a World Series game. My team was playing a day Series game during school and I was determined to listen to it. I hollowed out an old book to fit my transistor radio in it, then ran the earphone cable up my shirtsleeve to my ear, keeping my head turned just enough to hide it. Didn’t get caught and heard them win… ☺

Yep, I listened to Don Larson’s perfect game in junior high school on my little radio.

There was a time men didn’t get much vacation. I can’t begrudge a great memory like that.

During BC’s 1958 centennial my dad took me out of school to witness some of the events. I particularly remember seeing the stage coach come in from the Fraser River gold fields (which had apparently been transplanted to the Vancouver suburbs for the occasion.)
