We must remember that for evey “crooked” national politician, there are many good local elective office holders (and, unfortunately, some bad local ones [Bell, CA, as an example]). Just because someone wants to run for office doesn’t totally mean they are unqualified. (In some cases, I will admit they are not qualified.)
I think Jeb Bush and Al Gore are two of todays brightest politicians. Both decided they didn’t want to tarnish their popularity by running for President.
